If I close maya, the textures there are still looking correct, but when I open the scene again, they're replaced with the low res/distorted textures until I select the substance node again. It looks like when I select the substance node and the textures display correctly, I can see the textures displaying correctly in the folder I specified. When I open that folder I can see the images being generated. Some things I've tried, I made sure workflow is set to custom and I changed the output cache from none to use custom folder. It renders simply as noise when placed in the diffuse of a VrayMtl when. I wasn't sure if this was just a viewport bug and it would render correctly, but when rendering, the distortion/low res textures persist. I think there might be some compatibility with Mayas native water texture and Vray. So the only reliable way is doing it manually. Substance Painter 2020.1 (6.1.0) ships with VrayMtl shaders for both metallic and specular workflows and supports Vray through Vray Next Output templates.
